An elegant café experience |
The Kit-Tea-Kat is a twilight to dawn café run by Kira Yoshikage in downtown Bavan. You can enjoy all the expectations of a local coffee shop while experiencing the comfort of home. The first café was opened in Taiwan and has since become a huge hit in Asia. This luxury is now available to the residents of Ryslig, both monster and human alike. What is a cat café exactly, you ask? Well, it's quite simple. You drink your tea and have a lovely warm meal while in the company of wonderful animals that may entertain you with their natural kitty antics or perhaps spend the hour by your side. Here at the Kit-Tea-Kat café you'll find a wonderful dining experience as well as comfort. We truly hope you enjoy yourself at our cozy little café While this is a monster run establishment we do not serve anything but genuine food here. And so that no food goes to waste at the end of each work day we will offer up leftovers of the day to hungry monsters and humans alike. Getting started here is no easy thing and we here at Kit-Tea-Kat understand. |

I knew a couple of goblins who could fly by controlling the wind- sort of like how I did with the snowballs but using it for lift instead.
[Though sturdier than they appear, he's fairly confident that his wings are too small and delicate to withstand the amount of force he'd have to use. But that's fine; he's come to terms with their existence being form over function, all style over substance.]
But yeah, they have a mind of their own sometimes... it's kind of a pain in the ass. [like right now they're giving away how flustered he still feels by flaring out] Alright. I mean, I'm not an expert or anything but...
[He shouldn't really help him but Josuke rationalises it pretty easily as informing him of something that might stop him from going on a murderous hunger rampage later. Assuming that his question is related to the admittedly difficult task of feeding, that is.]
no subject
I think I prefer to stay on the ground. I've never even gone on an airplane... trusting some fickle magic and wings I can't even completely control to see if I can maybe fly is not a high priority.
[Surprisingly Josuke agrees. Which is good. Because he does need advice. Although... it's an incredibly difficult thing to talk about. It's best to start from the beginning.] I'll try and explain quickly... The magic or spells, or whatever it is that's needed to do what we need to do wasn't really clicking with me. And so, I had a man named Marco show me how it all works since whatever monster he is... a squid of some kind and Goblins feed off the same thing. He did show me... But... [Kira clicks his claws together feeling a tad bit at a loss. It's difficult to say just what he saw exactly. It wasn't good and he wishes more than anything that he never ever saw it and just swallowed his pride and asked Lucius or... or Josuke.]
Marco... Marco sucks the energy or whatever it is out of them with his mouth using their mouth. [Nailed it.] And I wanted to make sure that's not the case with us. Surely we have a much better way to get what we need out of people.
no subject
[Actually, that name's kind of familiar. Marco... Evangelisti, wasn't it? Tired looking blonde guy with glasses and scales- not quite a squid from what he saw but he didn't exactly get to witness him in motion underwater. Everyone always looks so different in their element, at once more monstrous and more elegant. But really, the only thing that stuck with him was the expression of wet resignation on his face after he opened the rigged parcel.
Either way, it doesn't actually matter because what Kira tells him next makes Josuke very glad that he didn't figure out what was bugging him about his wings. For someone who's so particular about his preferences, he sure is squeamish about this kind of thing.]
So, you're telling me... he kisses people to death... [There's a pause- and then, before he can stop himself, he starts laughing. The sound is clear and bright, utterly at odds with the tone of every other conversation they've had but, more unusually, not at all malicious. It's directed not at Kira but the general absurdity of the situation.] Poor guy, no wonder he looked so miserable...!
[Wait, there was a question in there. Somewhere. How to suck energy out of people without locking lips. Right. Still chuckling, Josuke tries to focus.]
Well, it's a little different for everyone. I have to do it by touch but not like that.
no subject
It's not so bad when it isn't at his expense, he must admit.
It's honestly rather contagious. Because... really. Kissing people to death. Kira cant help but flash his sharp teeth in a smile. It wasn't super amusing being there and witnessing all that. But Josuke's laughter makes it far easier to take in stride now. But it's really Josuke's last comment that strikes something in Kira.
He really does look miserable all of the time.
Kira brings a hand up to cover the few soft chuckles that escape him. It's really... it's all just so dumb. This whole situation. Not just Marco kissing people to death. All of it.
This place is absurd in every way.
Kira moves his hand to his chest, taking in a deep breath so they can continue this conversation proper. It's not technically right to laugh at Marco when he's not here to defend the gross things he does on a day to day. You should do that to his face.]
Touching I was able to grasp. When I tried it didn't go quite right. I was able to get something but... Perhaps I botched it a tad bit. I did just witness something rather horrifying, after all. I'll just have to keep trying.
And I did manage to get something... You know. I hadn't eaten since I transformed, at least not the proper way you need to. I hadn't realized I was in so much pain until I wasn't in it anymore. All the thoughts were clearer and it was easier to get up every day... It makes it easier to do it when you know it relieves a great pain. [It was sort of like reliving his first kill again. It feels better when you do this. And that was some unneeded reflection into his own psyche but still...It puts everything into a rather unpleasant perspective.]
no subject
... it is funny, though.]
Well... I guess deadly make-outs would put anyone in a weird mood. [even a serial killer] Me? I just need contact with a heartbeat, like in their neck or wrist or whatever.
[Like a reverse nurse. Unsurprisingly, the thought makes him uncomfortable. The first time he'd done it, it had come so frighteningly naturally, as if he'd known all along that this was how he was supposed to feel and feed and he was just waiting to wake up to it. The sensation of their pulse slowing and slipping away, the drumming of his own heart... it was right. Suddenly, he doesn't seem quite so amused by the whole thing.]
As long as I can still feel it, I can use a spell to drain their energy. I... I'm getting better at it. Now it doesn't take me as long and afterwards... it feels good, doesn't it? Like tuning a radio just right so all the static goes away. Is that what it's like for you when-
[Josuke stops himself abruptly, paling. No. No, no, no. He doesn't want to hear this. He doesn't need to hear this. He won't. Swallowing hard, he picks up Money again and tucks him into the front of his sweater.]
... fuck. I don't wanna think about this right now.
no subject
Being understood when it comes to what he does and why he needs to do it is not really something he's ever needed in his life but he'd be quite pleased to have it. That's probably the one nice thing about Ryslig. They're all killers and no one has any right to judge anyone else for it. There's no need to hide or be ashamed for what you have to do. Hell, there are some people here that are really into killing.
He's not even sure what to say for a moment. Confirming that he feels the same is probably not going to make Josuke feel better. But... the solidarity that they all feel this way and it's in their natures now to be this way might mean something. Right?
He needs to get out of this apartment. It's been a whirlwind of all sorts of things.]
You described it accurately enough. A radio static... and the relief when that noise finally stops. The clarity of it all... If you stop doing what you're doing that sound will come back. It always comes back. So you have to keep at it. And you either learn to accept yourself for the things you have to do to make it stop. Or... suffer, I suppose.
Despite what I said, during our first encounter here in this world. I truly don't believe it makes you a monster when you do things that you have to do, regardless of what they are. They may not make sense to everyone. And you may scoff comparing what I did in Morioh to what you do here... but I find it one and the same. It's something you have to do so that everything in your head is at peace once more. Having control over that is important. And it's an important step when it comes to living a quiet and peaceful life.
[Kira waves his hand brushing away this clearly uncomfortable subject for the boy. He also doesn't want to get into any kind of argument about how he compared the need to eat here and the killing of woman in Morioh. Josuke doesn't need to see it his way. He knows the feeling and instinct is the same. And that's what's important. What he knows.] But it's Christmas and hardly the appropriate time or place for such conversation. You've given me the information I needed. I will try it at their pulse and hearts and see if that fairs any better for me.
no subject
But he's right. This isn't the time for that kind of conversation.
Josuke strokes the top of Money's head for comfort, sighs, and then turns back to Kira.]
... yeah. Like I said, it's different for everyone but you should figure it out.
[After a moment's thought, he retrieves the kitten- who, for once, has gone quiet but for a little, motor-like purr- and carefully holds him out. The topic and normalcy of their meeting has lowered his guard in a way that's made him feel oddly vulnerable and more sentimental than he really should.]
Do you wanna say goodbye first? [And then, getting a grip on himself-] I don't know why I've even let you stay this long. Holiday spirit, I guess.
no subject
He reaches under the kitten's chin and gently scratches underneath with a single claw] Goodbye little one. I will not miss you climbing up my leg or all your screaming.
[He really won't. But he can't forget Hot Space who has also come to say goodbye. So he kneels down to give his former cat a few pets. This could be the last time they see each other...]
I don't know why you let me in at all. [He's being honest if Josuke's going to be.] But I'm glad you did. Lots of important things were discussed... I'll take that as my present over the coal you got me. Thank you again for that.
[He pushes himself back up and brushes off his jacket once again.] If you do move, I do hope you tell me. I end up on your doorstep quite a bit for one reason or another. You don't need to tell me where you go. I have no interest in knowing where they live. There's just no sense in coming out here to check on the cat if another blob absorbs people if you don't live here anymore.
Anyway... Thank you for letting me in and all that... [There is a moment of slight hesitation.] And Merry Christmas, Josuke.
